Overview

The Board of Directors is made up of officers and directors who provide guidance, counsel and vision for the association staff and volunteers serving CU-Boulder and its alumni. Directors are an important voice in determining the policies, guidelines and bylaws under which the association and its various programs operate.

The board is currently made up of 40 members, including officers and committee chairs. From a group of nominees proposed by the Nominations Committee, the current board elects 31 at-large members to overlapping three-year terms. Also serving on the Board are ex officio directors representing the CU-Boulder Chancellor, the CU Foundation, Admissions Office, Directors Club, Parents Association, The Herd, UComm and the University of Colorado Student Union (UCSU).

Directors attend board meetings in Boulder three times a year. They serve on standing committees that advise staff members responsible for specific association programs. Board and committee responsibilities require the involvement of directors between meetings as well. The association staff works hand in hand with board members by providing information to facilitate decision making and involvement in programs and activities.

Join the Board of Directors

The Alumni Association is looking for energetic alums to replace board members whose three-year terms end in June 2009. As a member of the Board of Directors, you’ll work with staff and other directors to develop and promote the association’s strategic direction, and review policy and programs that help the association meet its objectives. You will also help shape programs to reflect the needs and desires of the university’s alumni as well as the best interests of the association and the university. Directors serve three-year terms, returning to Colorado for three meetings each year.
As a member of the Board of Directors, your duties, responsibilities and authority will include the following:

1. Attending all board meetings, preparing for agenda items and issues, and studying supporting materials
2. Participating effectively in board activities and discussions by voicing opinions, displaying leadership and thinking creatively
3. Serving as a member of one or two committees, being active in discussions and projects, and following through on ideas
4. Representing the interests of everyone served by the association, without favoring any special interests
5. Acting as an advocate for the association and the University of Colorado
6. Identifying, cultivating and recruiting future leaders for the Alumni Association.
7. Performing other duties and assuming other responsibilities assigned by the chair or the board
