Honoring our military, veterans and family members!

The CU-Arizona football game this Saturday, Nov. 12, features a Student Veterans of America pregame party to honor all military, veterans and family members. It goes from 10 a.m. to noon on the south patio of the University Memorial Center. There will be a live band and door prizes. Pregame tickets $10; football game are also $10.

Buff Rumi-nations

Bob Bruner (PolSci’60, MBA’63) is a rug collector extraordinaire. He says he found this rare rug portraying Rumi, a 13th century Persian Muslim poet, jurist, theologian and Sufi Mystic who was the founder of the Whirling Dervishes, in the back room of an oriental rug dealer in Florida. The 2 foot by 3 foot rug was made in Tabriz, Iran. Bob says the rug should attract a lot of attention on Google as there are no other images of Rumi there similar to this.

Buff bulldogs at the Georgia pregame

These bulldogs dressed CU style and named Mama (on the right ) and her daughter Bubbles stole the show at the Alumni Association’s CU-Georgia pregame on Saturday, Oct. 2. The Georgia mascot, in case you didn’t know, is a bulldog. CU pulled out the game at the end and beat those Bulldogs 29-27.

Voss in space

Alum Jim Voss (MAero’74, HonDocSci’00) was an invited speaker at the Alumni Association board meeting on Friday, Sept. 17. Jim regaled the group with tales of riding the space shuttle, working on the International Space Station and biological complications of living in orbit. Voss is a retired Army colonel and has received numerous awards for his work. He speaks to university groups regularly as well as teaches an introduction to aerospace class at CU-Boulder. Archeological site workers are Forever Buff!

Anthropology professor Payson Sheets, in the middle with his arm raised, took Forever Buffs t-shirts to his excavation site at El Ceren, El Salvador last month. Ceren is a well-preserved ancient Maya village that was buried by deep volcanic ash 1,400 years ago. Payson discovered it in 1976.

Stump leaves the grind

After two and a half years as interim executive director of the Alumni Association, Ron Stump will retire in mid-August. Prior, he worked in the office of student affairs, most recently as vice chancellor for student affairs, for 12 years.
