Fall Shakespeare classes for kids

  The Colorado Shakespeare Festival offers fall theatre classes for kids and teens. All classes held at Wesley Chapel and are taught by CSF professionals. Are you pregnant and feeling stressed, anxious or down?

  The CU-Boulder Dimidjian lab is conducting a study investigating the feasibility of yoga to improve symptoms of anxiety and depression for women during pregnancy. The classes last for eight weeks. Through Soviet Jewish Eyes: Photography, War and the Holocaust

Although World War II is one of the most documented conflicts of the twentieth century, western audiences have had little exposure to Soviet photographs of that war. Through Soviet Jewish Eyes, based on CU-Boulder professor David Shneer’s critically acclaimed book of the same title, presents over sixty images that concern Soviet aesthetics and narratives of World War II.

Saving power at Koenig Alumni Center

Barb Banta was recently lauded by Moe Tabrizi, Campus Sustainability Director for her efforts to reduce power consumption at the Alumni Center. Electricity consumption has dropped 14% compared to last year, netting an $8,000 savings for the university.

Baker, a campus home for many

The wonderfully detailed Baker Hall has been home to thousands of alums, as it was originally designed by Charles Klauder and G.H. Huntington as a men’s residence hall in 1937. During World War II it served as a dorm for U.S. servicemen who were learning foreign languages such as Japanese.

Law dean David Getches passes away

Law dean and professor David Getches died at home on Tuesday, July 5 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be missed greatly by the CU family and the many lives he touched.

Forever Buffs at the high frontier

The space shuttle program will end this month on July 8 when Atlantis touches down for the last time. From the first orbital flights in 1981 to the final launch, CU has been directly involved in the space program. Twenty CU alums have gone to space.

University of Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame member Billy Lewis (PE’60), the school’s first African-American varsity basketball player, has passed away at the age of 72. He died in his Sarasota, Fla., home on June 14.

Dalton Trumbo Fountain, constructed in 1964 just to the north of the UMC, was dedicated to CU alumnus Dalton Trumbo (A&S’29) in 1993. Trumbo was a famous Hollywood screenwriter but became a victim of blacklisting during the McCarthy era.

Saving the United States

For several years now Mary Florman Villalba (Art’71) has been involved in efforts to save America’s flagship, the 990-foot SS United States. She’s on the executive board of the SS United States Conservancy, and proudly writes that the organization was able to purchase the ship earlier this year, which was built in 1952 and is still the fastest ship ever to sail.
