Beginning in July, alumni may use most of Career Services’ tools, including job postings, on-campus interviews, information sessions and other useful approaches, free of charge. Catch a home pregameCheck out our gourmet tailgate buffet, have a drink and share your Buff pride at alumni pregames. We’re at Benson Field 2½ hours before all home football games. Golf at CU’s new courseJoin the Hispanic Alumni Association at its annual Chile Open Golf Tournament June 27 at the Colorado National Golf Club (formerly Vista Ridge) in Erie, Colo., now CU’s golf course. Check out the Heritage Center’s stunning ChinaDocumenting China: Contemporary Photography and Social Change, a Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service show, features 57 dramatic photographs by Chinese photographers through mid-August. This exhibit was developed by the Bates College Museum of Art and made possible by funding from Crystal Cruises. See it with a long-term exhibit, Americans in a Changing China: 1920-2008. Engineers Without Borders’ Nepal Project received a boost thanks to the initiative of several CU-Boulder students and the generous support of donors and community leaders. Five students who headed to Nepal on their own dime to route clean drinking water to communities sought the help of the CU Foundation to raise funds. Two community leaders sponsored an event that raised $7,000. Help support these CU students. Grant supports promising cell researchScientists at CU-Boulder may get a step closer to identifying all proteins present in a single cell type, thanks to a $1.2 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation. The grant could better enable researchers to understand the complex changes within a cell that are triggered by disease, food or other means. The findings could accelerate the development of targeted therapies for cancer and heart disease, among other diseases. Read more here. Just recently Zimmer was honored twice: with the Chris Schenkel Award for distinguished career broadcasting in college football, and induction into the Broadcast Professionals Hall of Fame. May graduate makes it three generationsAfter this spring’s commencement, three generations of CU grads stopped for a photo with the beloved Flatirons in the distance. Peter Barnecut (Hist’02) e-mailed about his little brother, Chris Barnecut (Anthro’03), who’s on an around the world tour on a BMW motorcycle while flying his paraglider at every opportunity. Chris was in Army ROTC at CU, served as a 2nd lieutenant in Korea and then did a combat tour in Iraq coming out a captain with a Bronze Star. Peter says Chris “has kept the spirit of CU alive through it all,” and that his web blog, The Longest Friday, gets 3,000 hits a day. Send your photos and stories for this section to Marc Killinger. |
A musical memoir of CUBy Geary Larrick (PhDMus’84) I have wonderful memories from the two years when I studied at CU-Boulder, where I earned my doctorate in percussion music. Now, 25 years later, I regularly utilize the skills that I developed during that time.

Hither to a Shakespeare Festival full of laughsThe Colorado Shakespeare Festival kicks off its 52nd season on July 2 with Hamlet. After come a medley of comedies: Much Ado About Nothing, The Two Gentlemen of Verona and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), plus one more favorite–To Kill a Mockingbird.
