Dear Alum,The students, nearly 30,000 strong, came back this week and were greeted by a good six inches of snow. Walking up to the Hill I jostled with lots of people, unlike the quiet of the last few weeks, and it felt like CU! At the top of the news is that CU-Boulder has risen on the Peace Corps’ top 25 list of large schools producing volunteers. With 102 alumni currently serving we’re no. 2 in the 2009 rankings. Go here for the story. Check out the alumni ID card item just below to learn how to get your ID and access many Alumni Association services. All alumni are eligible for this in our Forever Buffs program. Please give some thought to writing an article for CU Voices, featuring your reminiscences about CU and thoughts about life. Send ideas to editor Marc Killinger. If you’ve moved or changed e-mail addresses, let us know. And don’t forget you can always find the latest CU happenings at www.cualum.org. Connect with other alums at the My CU Network. If you’re having trouble viewing this e-mail newsletter, you may view it online here.

Fans of the football team are used to seeing a lot of black and gold, but now they can take pride in another color: green. The 2008 football season saw the CU-Boulder Buffaloes embark on a recycling and composting program, dubbed Ralphie’s Green Stampede, the first zero-waste program ever launched at an NCAA Bowl Championship Series stadium.
With thousands of hours logged on the project over nearly two years, students are approaching the finals in what has been referred to as the national championship series for satellite design. CU-Boulder will be one of 11 universities participating in the flight competition review Jan. 19-20.
