Our nearly 12-year president, Kent Zimmerman (Edu’80, MPubAd’90), is departing shortly for Crested Butte, Europe and then Argentina. A little skiing, visiting family and friends, then learning Spanish – this is what he and Christine Zimmerman (Ger’80, MEdu’90) have planned for their year or so off. The going away party with an Argentine theme is Thurs., Jan. 31, from 4:19 to 6 p.m. at Koenig Alumni Center. Please bring photos (4×6 maximum size) to add to the memory book if you’d like. Seniors access classes

Senior Auditors can sign up now!Registration for the Senior Auditor program is Tues., Jan. 22, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wed., Jan. 23, 8 a.m. to noon at the Koenig Alumni Center, 1202 University Ave. (southeast corner University and Broadway). This program allows senior citizens who are Colorado residents age 55 and above to audit CU-Boulder classes. The cost is $5 a semester for Alumni Association members and $60 a semester for nonmembers. There is no limit on the number of classes that may be audited. Environmental scientist lauded

CU Professor Joe RyanProfessor Joe Ryan of civil, environmental, and architectural engineering will this month be awarded a Pacesetter Award from the Camera for his significant contributions to the Boulder community. Ryan and his students have been involved in testing for metal contamination in area streams near Jamestown, west of Boulder, that may pose a threat to public health and aquatic life. Research findings have been instrumental in securing $8 million in funds from the EPA for cleanup and remediation impact planning.

CU Veterans GroupA new CU club is forming to help CU veterans reconnect, meet and support other alumni who have shared military experiences. The club also hopes to raise funds for veterans’ scholarships to supplement their GI Bill, so they can attend CU despite rising tuition costs. Basketball scholarships in the works

Sox Walseth Basketball Scholarship

A group of former CU basketball players are organizing an effort to endow two basketball scholarships at CU in memory of former head basketball coach Sox Walseth (PE’48, MEdu’53). Sox and CU basketball were synonymous for over 60 years. The goal is to fully fund two scholarships, one for the men’s program and one for the women’s.
