Roaming Buffs – July 2007

Roaming Buffs Catalog

Roaming Buffs - Catalog 2007It’s ready! The 2007 Roaming Buffs Travel Catalog is hot off the press. The selection of trips is outstanding. There’s something for just about everyone.

In September the catalog was mailed to past travelers and folks requesting to be on our mailing list. If you don’t fit into either of those categories and would like a copy, e-mail your request to roamingbuffs@colorado.edu.

2007 Trips

Bookings for 2007 have been very strong. Trip brochures have been out for a while on several of our offerings with space getting tight on some.

Roaming Buffs in PeruThere is limited availability on Cruise the Panama Canal trip (Jan. 20-31), and we are accepting names for a waitlist for Treasures of Peru and Machu Picchu (March 26-April 5). This trip was so popular last year that we had to repeat it!

Italian Favorites—Rome and Florence and Spectacular South Africa are also doing well.

Our Feb. 16-21 CU Surf Camp is fully booked, but we’ll be running another one March 24-28.

CU Family Camp

Save July 8-15 for a fantastic, fun-filled family vacation!

Roaming Buffs - Family Camp You can actually design the camping experience to fit your family’s needs. For instance, you can spend the entire week — from Sunday to Sunday — at camp. Or, if a week is too long for your family just choose the mini-camp version, Thursday, July 12 – Sunday, July 15. Each version includes the challenge course, plus hiking, fishing, arts and crafts, tournaments and entertaining campfires.

This camp is not your typical Boy Scout or Girl Scout camp…you sleep in a real bed with your own bathroom! All delicious cafeteria meals are included. It’s truly a great vacation for everyone.

Traveling Today

It’s been said that part of the excitement of a trip is in the actual journey …getting there is part of the experience. Traveling in today’s world presents many challenges. What items are you allowed to carry on the plane? What should be packed in checked baggage? How much does my bag weigh? These are questions that today’s travelers need answered before departing.

As soon as we think we have the answers the rules are changed. When traveling internationally you might find that each country interprets U.S. regulations differently. This was the case of a recent group of travelers returning to the U.S. from Edinburgh, Scotland via Frankfurt, Germany.

On the outward-bound flight from the U.S. the size of carry-on luggage was pretty generous and lipstick and similar items were allowed in hand carried bags. The return flight from Scotland was very different. Carry-ons were limited to one per person (ladies, this included handbags) and the size was restricted to that of a laptop briefcase. Lipstick was allowed in Scotland, but when going through security in Frankfurt it was not.

Where does that leave travelers? The safest bet is to contact your air carrier and ask them to go over the requirements for each country you’ll be flying in and out of. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
